Energy storage for Smart Grids

For grid operators and utilities

On-grid energy storage
When directly connected to the grid, energy storage improves the grid’s stability and provides easier management by grid operators.
By optimizing the use of the energy, energy storage can defer investment costs that would normally be needed due to peak periods of consumption or production.
Energy storage with Islanding mode for back-up power
One key concept of Smart grid is the resilient microgrid that supply energy to consumers and producers even in case of grid outage thank to energy storage with islanding mode.
In grid-connected mode, the energy storage provides the same functionalities listed above. This concept has been validated by ENEDIS (French DSO) and EDF R&D in an industrial district in the south of France as part of the Nice Grid pilot project.
